Andy Murray is the latest – and biggest name – to pull out of an increasingly decimated field at the ATP Montreal Masters.

The world No.1 announced on Thursday that he was continuing to rehabilitate the hip injury that hampered him in a quarterfinal loss to Sam Querrey at Wimbledon.

Joining Murray on the sidelines is Marin Cilic, the world No.6 and Wimbledon finalist who is struggling with an adductor injury.

Earlier, Stan Wawrinka pulled out with a knee injury – he’ll also miss Cincinnati – while Novak Djokovic was already an absentee after shutting down his season to heal an elbow injury.

Maria Sharapova, meanwhile, pulled out of the concurrent WTA event in Toronto due to the left-arm injury that forced her out of Stanford.

Said Murray: “I am sad to be missing the tournament in Montreal because I have many great memories from my time in Canada. I am doing everything I can to return as quickly as possible.”

Remaining in the Montreal field are Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, now the tournament’s top two seeds following Murray’s withdrawal.

Federer will return to Montreal for the first time since 2011; both he and Nadal will play their first events since Wimbledon.
