After sustaining a nasty ankle injury that forced his withdrawal from the French Open, David Goffin will now miss Wimbledon as he continues to recover.

David Goffin has announced he will skip this year’s Wimbledon championships after failing to recover sufficiently from an ankle injury.

The Belgian, ranked 13th, wrenched his ankle during the first set of his third-round match against Horacio Zeballos at Roland Garros, retiring from the match immediately without hitting another ball.

Goffin had been tracking down a shot from Zeballos before tripping on the rolled-up court covers stored at the back of the court.

Goffin had the last two years advanced to the last 16 at the All England Club; in 2016 he led Milos Raonic by two sets to love before bowing out in five.

The 26-year-old has this year enjoyed a stellar season, going 31-12 and reaching the Australian Open quarterfinals, semifinals in Monte Carlo and finals in Sofia and Rotterdam.

He cracked the top 10 for the first time in February.
