The Korean whiz beat Italian wildcard Gianluigi Quinzi in five sets on Thursday to progress.

Borna Coric also made it through to the semifinals with a 3-0 record in the other round-robin group, but not before being forced to fight against Karen Khachanov.

The Croatian trailed two sets to love before recovering to win 3-4(3) 2-4 4-2 4-0 4-2.

Andrey Rublev, the tournament’s top seed, remained alive with a five-set win over Denis Shapovalov, who that same day was named the ATP’s Most Improved Player of the Year.

Rublev will go on to face Coric in the semifinals while Chung will take on Daniil Medvedev, after the Russian beat Jared Donaldson in four sets to finish second in his group with a 2-1 record.
