In-form Caroline Garcia will debut at the WTA Finals after Johanna Konta bowed out of the race to Singapore.
Garcia vaulted to eighth place in the race after spectacularly completing the Wuhan-Beijing double, bumping Konta down to ninth.
The Brit could have passed Garcia with a deep run at next week’s Kremlin Cup in Moscow – yet instead she withdrew from the tournament due to an ongoing foot injury.

Garcia thus becomes the first Frenchwoman to compete in singles at the WTA Finals since Amelie Mauresmo in 2006, when the tournament was staged in Madrid.
“Qualifying for the WTA Finals in Singapore means the world to me,” Garcia said.
“I’m very proud to be among the top eight players of the season and I’m looking forward to being part of that incredible player field. To be the first Frenchwoman since Mauresmo in 2006 to qualify for the year-end finals makes it even more special.”
Also headed to Singapore are Garbiñe Muguruza, Karolina Pliskova, Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina, Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Jelena Ostapenko.

Konta, meanwhile, will serve as an alternate at the year-end championship for the second straight year.
In addition to winning the Chinese double, Garcia’s 2017 highlights also included a first Grand Slam quarterfinal – on home soil at Roland Garros, no less – and also reaching the second week at Wimbledon.
