Garbine Muguruza has revealed in a blog post that she hasn’t had much time to savour her Wimbledon victory, instead turning her focus to improving her record on US hard courts.

Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza is not content to simply sit back and bask in the adulation that has come with her latest Grand Slam triumph.

The two-time major winner has already set her sights on refocusing for the US hardcourt season, a segment of the tennis calendar during which, historically, she has underperformed.

In a blog she posted for BBVA, Muguruza revealed that she had only a little time to reflect on her Wimbledon victory – on Sunday she had already thrown herself back into a full training load, combining on-court work with gym sessions.

“I still have basically half of the season ahead of me and I’m really looking forward to it,” said Muguruza, who beat Venus Williams in straight sets to claim her first title of 2017 at the All England Club.

“I didn’t want to change my calendar despite winning at Wimbledon. So, I’m sticking to my plan to play three tournaments before the US Open. I’ll start next week at Stanford – my first game is on Wednesday, I think – and then Toronto and Cincinnati before heading to New York for the last Grand Slam of the year.

WTA WRAP: Wozniacki hits milestone

“I’m pretty excited about this year’s North American hard court session. It’s true that the past two years I struggled playing there, but I’m ready to take on the challenge with a positive mindset and give my best, like I’ve been doing all year long.”

In the past three years, Muguruza’s best result as part of the US Open Series was a semifinal finish in Cincinnati 2016.

She has never been beyond the second round at Flushing Meadows.
