Caroline Wozniacki hit a 2017 milestone, but it was a tough day for some of the big names on the ATP.

It was a difficult day for the seeds on the ATP, but Caroline Wozniacki will be happy after hitting a solid 2017 milestone win at the Swedish Open.

WTA Bastad: Wozniacki hits 2017 milestone

Caroline Wozniacki notched up her 40th win in 2017 with a hard-fought 6-2 2-6 6-4 win over qualifier Viktorija Golubic. It is a remarkable turnaround in form for the Dane, who is up to world No.6 having sunk as low as No.74 ahead of last year’s US Open.

Elsewhere, qualifier Kateryna Kozlova stunned former champion Mona Barthel 6-3 6-3; Elise Mertens got the better of Carla Suarez Navarro, winning 6-3 6-7(2) 7-5 in two hours 43 minutes; and Kiki Bertens was forced to withdraw from her match against Barbora Krejcikova.

ATP Hamburg: Ferrer crashes out in Hamburg

Leading 5-1 in the opening set, everything appeared to be going according to plan for David Ferrer. However, qualifier Federico Delbonis reeled off an improbable run of six games on the trot to take the opening set, before sealing the match 7-5 6-3.

Third seed Karen Khachanov was forced to dig very deep to earn his win over Aljaz Bedene. In a high-quality contest, the two ATP young guns traded blows for two hours 27 minutes, the Russian winning 7-6(4) 5-7 6-4.

Elsewhere, Nicolas Kicker got the better of Benoit Paire with a 6-4 7-6(7) win; lucky loser Leonardo Mayer was a 6-2 7-5 winner over Jan-Lennard Struff; and Philipp Kohlschreiber wowed home fans with a 6-3 3-6 6-2 win over Gilles Simon.

WTA Nanchang: Jankovic crashes out

If Jelena Jankovic went to the Jiangxi Open looking for form she will be sorely disappointed. The former world No.1 crashed out to qualifier Jing-Jing Lu 2-6 6-1 6-2 in a topsy turvy second round match.

Meanwhile, second seed Peng Shuai benefitted from Tereza Martincova’s retirement; third seed Kristyna Pliskova was forced to withdraw while leading Nao Hibino 3-0; and Yafan Wang was a 6-0 6-2 winner over Kai-Chen Chang.

ATP Gstaad: Fogninimarches into quarterfinals

Fabio Fognini’s decision to take a wildcard appears to be paying off, the Italian battling into the quarterfinals with a 1-6 6-4 6-3 win over Norbert Gombos.

It wasn’t all good news for the Italians, though, as Ernests Gulbis dug very deep to oust fifth seed Paolo Lorenzi 7-6(10) 3-6 6-4 in two hours 39 minutes.

In the day’s other matches, qualifier Yannick Hanfmann beat Feliciano Lopez 7-6(5) 3-6 6-1 and Joao Sousa marched into the quarterfinals with a 6-1 6-2 win over Henri Laaksonen.
