There was one subject dominating Day 2 of Wimbledon 2017: injuries. Who had them, what to do about them, and if girls really are tougher than boys. Needless to say, it gives us plenty of fodder for our daily round-up of the day’s best quotes…
“Yeah, it’s really odd that Roger’s result and my result more or less was the same. We had a little joke about it in the locker room, saying we should maybe play a practice set on the Centre Court, have the crowd stay.” – the Centre Court crowd would have loved a Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer practice set.
“The question always is, should they have started the match at all. That only the player can answer really, in my opinion.” – Roger Federer is open minded about the injuries.
“When I became the No. 1 in New York few months ago, it’s not in my mind. It’s in my mind to play good tennis again, to win matches.” – Angelique Kerber isn’t worried about the world No.1 spot (even though she could lose it this week).

“Well, he’s introduced me to a lot of ’80 rock bands, which before I wasn’t quite familiar with.” – Pat Cash has had a profound impact on CoCo Vandeweghe.
“I think I played a good match, to be my first match on grass after long time. I’m looking forward to playing better in second round.” – Juan Martin del Potro sends out a warning after his win over Thanasi Kokkinakis.
“I did a lot of good things today, especially from the attitude side. I was out there. I was pretty imposing.” – Milos Raonic has got some attitude.
“It looked like he was struggling a bit physically, mentally, I don’t know what it was. He just seemed a bit lethargic.” – Thanasi Kokkinakis wasn’t sure what was happening with Delpo during his match.
“This is not on my mind. I know it’s been for last few weeks this thing about being world No. 1 for few players. I just don’t want to be focusing on this.” – Karolina Pliskova isn’t interested in sitting on top of the WTA tree.

“I feel like I’m talking to like Lloyd’s of London or something. Jesus.” – Sloane Stephens got a thorough questioning about her dodgy leg.
“When I fell on the grass two-and-a-half weeks ago when I got to Queen’s I didn’t think I was going to be able to play Wimbledon. To be sitting here, after a win, as well, is extra special.” – Jack Sock is a happy chap after his win.
“It’s the same things, in many things in life, like, are you okay to live with that or not? This is not like a crime or something.” Timea Bacsinszky wades into the injuries debate.
