It follows the withdrawal of world No.2 Rafael Nadal from the important lead-in tournament to the season’s third Grand Slam.
A WTA Tour event in Birmingham next week has also been rocked by withdrawals, with world No.2 Simona Halep (ankle), world No.3 Karolina Pliskova (elbow) and former Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska (foot) all sidelined.
Newly-crowned French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko has also withdrawn and now plans to begin her grass court preparation at Eastbourne the following week.
Former champion Maria Sharapova headlines a list of stars who are confirmed to miss Wimbledon with injury, along with world No.13 David Goffin and former US Open champion Sam Stosur.
