A leg injury has ended Elina Svitolina’s title defence in Kuala Lumpur, with the No.1 seed and newest member of the top 10 withdrawing from the Malaysian Open.

Defending champion Elina Svitolina has withdrawn from the Malaysian Open with a leg injury ahead of Wednesday’s second-round match against Nao Hibino.

The 22-year-old, the tournament’s top seed, beat qualifier Jang Su-Jeong 6-2 6-3 on Tuesday in the first round.

“Defending champ @ElinaSvitolina has withdrawn from @alyawtamo with a lower left leg injury,” the WTA said on its official Twitter account.

Svitolina on Saturday won the Dubai Open, the sixth and the biggest title of her career, to move into the world’s top 10 for the first time.
