Ana Ivanovic has been forced to call time on the rest of her 2016 season. The Serbian star, who crashed out in the first round of the US Open, blamed injuries for her decision to miss the Asian swing of the WTA Tour.
“Due to my recurring wrist injury, I have been advised by my doctor to take some time off the court,” Ivanovic said in a statement posted on Twitter.
“I have also been delaying surgery on my toe, which I broke at the Australian Open in January last year, and this is something that I will need to take care of in the upcoming weeks.”

Ivanovic has had a torrid season on Tour. Despite maintaining a top 32 ranking, the former world No.1 crashed out in the opening rounds of her last four tournaments (US Open, Cincinnati, the Olympics and Wimbledon). Her best result of 2016 was a semifinal appearance in St Petersburg, where she was beaten by Roberta Vinci.
