US Open to offer biggest prize purse in tennis history

The US Open has announced that it will offer the largest prize purse in the history of tennis in 2016.

The 2016 US Open has announced the biggest prize purse in the history of tennis. The tournament is increasing prize money by 10 percent on 2015, or USD $4million total, to USD $46.3million.

As expected, the men’s and women’s champions will be the biggest winners on the day, each pocketing a cheque for a mere USD$3.5m. The runners-up, meanwhile, will have to get by with USD$1.75m reward.

Organisers have also secured higher levels of funding for both doubles and qualifying, each enjoying a 10 percent rise.
