Serena and Venus Williams have completed a remarkable Wimbledon fortnight with victory in the Wimbledon women’s doubles final on Saturday night at Centre Court.
The enduring sisters, aged 34 and 36, won their 14th Grand Slam title and sixth Wimbledon title as a pair with a commanding 6-3 6-4 win over Timea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova.
Just hours after Serena won the women’s singles title on the same court over Angelique Kerber, the Williams sisters took their record in major doubles finals to a sparkling 14-0.
Venus had earlier in the week progressed to the singles semifinals before falling to Kerber.
It was their first Grand Slam doubles title since they won at the All England Club in 2012.
This marks the fourth occasion that Serena has scooped both the singles and doubles titles at Wimbledon, having also done so in 2002, 2009 and 2012.
Venus did the double in 2000 and 2008.
They have established themselves as unofficial favourites for Olympic gold when they represent the United States at the Rio 2016 Games in August.
