Only five teams in history have won a career Grand Slam in mixed doubles – and Martina Hingis and Leander Paes could soon make it six.
The pair teamed up to win the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open mixed doubles titles during 2015 and can added the missing title in their collection when they line up in the French Open mixed doubles final today.
The 42-year-old Paes has previously completed a career Grand Slam in men’s doubles, having won eight titles throughout his illustrious career. He also has nine Grand Slam mixed doubles crowns.
Hingis also owns a career Grand Slam in women’s doubles, having won 12 titles. The 35-year-old has won four Grand Slam mixed doubles titles.
Neither have previously won the mixed doubles title in Paris. This is the first time Hingis has qualified for the final, while Paes’ best is a runner-up finish alongside Martina Navratilova in 2005. Victory would make them the 16th and 17th people to complete an individual career mixed doubles Grand Slam.
The unseeded Hingis and Paes play second seeds Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig in the final. It is the third match scheduled on Philippe Chatrier Court.
