It will be a rematch of the Roland Garros final when Simona Halep and Sloane Stephens line up on opposite sides of the net in the WTA Montreal final.
Stephens, the world No.3, defeated defending champion Elina Svitolina 6-3 6-3 to set up a final meeting with Halep, who earlier beat Ashleigh Barty 6-4 6-1.

Stephens advanced a round further than her semifinal run in Toronto last year and continued her incredible run on North American hard courts; she’s gone 29-6 since July 2017.

Stephens hasn’t dropped a set all week in Montreal and will shoot for her second title of the season after hoisting the Miami Open trophy in March.

She’ll also be out to reverse the result of her Roland Garros final against Halep, during which she lead 6-3 2-0 before falling in three sets.
Halep, meanwhile, cruised to her third career final in Canada with victory over the error-prone Australian in just one hour and 10 minutes.
“I think I played smart tennis today. I pushed her…on her backhand, then I could just receive a shorter ball, an easier ball for me to open the court,” Halep said in her press conference.
“I just went all the way also on her forehand, short, cross, long, everything. I played some slices. I think the match was a very good level of tennis even if the rhythm was a little bit mixed.”
Barty, who faced the French Open champion the first time in her career, won just one of seven break point chances she created and racked up 37 unforced errors.
Halep quickly won the first five games of the first set, with the Australian No.1 breaking her just once, before the top seed closed it out.
The 2016 Canadian Open champion in Montreal then won the first three games of the second set, and saved four break points from 0-40 in the fourth game and another two in the sixth game.
Barty recovered from 0-40 in the final game only to double fault on the Halep’s fourth match point and hand her victory.
