Bob Bryan looks set to miss the rest of the 2018 season.

“He’s going to have surgery unfortunately,” his twin brother and world No.1 Mike Bryan told DownTheTee.

“He’s having it this week up in New York (with a doctor) who’s one of the best in the world for the hip. It looks like it might be a six month recovery. He’s hoping to come back a little after the Aussie Open next year.”

Bob, 40 and currently ranked No.4, has been sidelined since injuring his hip in the Madrid final in May. It halted the most successful men’s doubles team in history’s run of 76 consecutive Grand Slam appearances together.

No.1-ranked Mike has since combined with five different players in his past six events. He is teaming with Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin in Washington DC this week, but plans to primarily play with fellow American Jack Sock for the rest of the season. The duo won Wimbledon together last month. It was Mike’s 17th Grand Slam men’s doubles title – but first without his brother.

“I’m going to finish the year with Jack. We’re going to play Toronto, Cincinnati, the (US) Open, and in the fall, hopefully, make the ATP World Tour Finals,” Mike said.
