Roger Federer and Simona Halep will head into next week’s Wimbledon championships as the top seeds, with seven-time champion Serena Williams at No.25.
The American will be among the seeded players despite a world ranking of 183, having played just seven matches since the birth of her first child last September.
The All England Club’s seedings committee chose to reflect her remarkable record, which includes a seventh singles title on her last appearance at Wimbledon two years ago.

At No.25, Williams will avoid other seeded players in the first two rounds but could meet one of the top eight players as early as round three.
Her promotion means Slovakia’s world No.32 Dominika Cibulkova misses out on a seeding, but otherwise the WTA rankings have been adhered to, leaving defending champion Garbine Muguruza at No.3.

A grass-court formula is applied in the men’s draw to reflect past performances on the surface, resulting in eight-time champion Federer swapping places with world No.1 and two-time winner Rafael Nadal.
The Championships get under way on Monday.
