South Korea’s Hyeon Chung has withdrawn from the French Open because of an ankle injury.
The world No.20, who reached the Australian Open semifinals in January, had already pulled out of the Roland Garros warm-up event in Lyon on Tuesday.
“I have been struggling with an ankle injury the entire season,” Chung said in a statement on social media.
“An MRI scan has revealed that I have a build-up of fluid in the ankle joint which might require a small procedure and then an extended period of rest.”

Chung has played just four matches during the clay-court season, reaching the semifinals in Munich before losing to Robin Haase in the first round in Madrid.
He reached the third round at Roland Garros last year, beating Sam Querrey and Denis Istomin before losing to Kei Nishikori.
Chung joins Milos Raonic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga as injury absentees in Paris, while Juan Martin del Potro remains a doubt, Roger Federer is skipping the clay-court season and Andy Murray is recovering from a long-term hip injury.
