Caroline Wozniacki claimed spectators made death threats against her family and verbally abused her fiance’s 10-year-old niece and nephew during her defeat by Monica Puig at the Miami Open.
The Australian Open champion went down 0-6 6-4 6-4 to the Olympic champion from Puerto Rico in round two.
After the match, second seed Wozniacki posted a statement on Twitter wishing her “great opponent and friend” the best for the remainder of the tournament.

However, the 27-year-old Dane also alleged that members of the crowd had “threatened my family, wished death upon my mom and dad, called me names that I can’t repeat”.
Wozniacki added that “security staff did nothing to prevent this and even accepted this to take place”.
Tournament director James Blake responded with a statement, saying WTA staff “never witnessed, nor were they notified of any specific threats made to the players or their families.
“If we had been notified, the situation would have been handled immediately.”
