Thiem, Bedene set up Argentina Open final

Austrian top seed Dominic Thiem made light work of beating Frenchman Gael Monfils to set up an Argentina Open final against Slovenia’s Aljaz Bedene.

World No.6 Thiem, who won the ATP event in 2016, steamrolled Monfils 6-2 6-1 in just 62 minutes.

Thiem was totally dominant on his first-serve points, winning 23 of 27.

He did not face a break point throughout the match, while converting four of his nine on the Monfils serve.

The 24-year-old Bedene defeated local favourite Federico Delbonis 6-4 2-6 6-1 in the claycourt event.

“I played really well in the first set but I dropped a little bit in the second,” Bedene told atpworldtour.com.

“I’m happy I managed to come through in the third. I’m serving pretty well. Not everything depends on my serve, but it helps.”

Thiem has won both previous encounters with world No.51 Bedene, the last earlier this year at the Doha Open.
