Roger Federer is no stranger to appearing on the ATP hot shots reel.
And he’s back there again, after this piece of ingenuity in Rotterdam.
In his first-round match, Ruben Bemelmans played a delightful half-volleyed lob over Federer’s head, which landed just inside the baseline.
It put him in a dominant position in the rally, until Federer unleashed an overhead with his back to the the court that thrilled the fans, turned the rally back in his favour, and eventually won him the point.
“Just when it looked as if Federer could be in a spot of bother there, he comes up with this,” said the awe-struck commentator.
Federer completed the 47-minute demolition job just a few games later to move through to a second-round meeting with Philipp Kohlschreiber.
