Angelique Kerber has ended her long and successful association with coach Torben Beltz and announced she will now work with Wim Fissette.
The German, who in 2016 under Beltz rose to world No.1 after winning the Australian and US Opens, experienced a dramatic slump in 2017, failing to win a title and slipping to 21st.

“It’s been tough but I’m about to start a new chapter in my career, with a new coach,” Kerber tweeted.
“Thank you @TorbenBeltz for everything that you’ve done for me. We share the best memories of my career so far and you’ve not just been a coach, but also a true friend and that won’t change.
“The next season is coming soon and I’m very excited to start working with @wimfissette as my new coach. It’s a new chance and I’m curious to find out what we can achieve together.”
Fissette comes with an impressive resume; the Belgian coach has worked previously with former world No.1s Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka and current No.1 Simona Halep.
He most recently coached Johanna Konta, as was with the Brit through all of 2017 before they announced their split in October.
Kerber first worked with Beltz as far back as 2003, but they split in 2013, only to reunite in 2015. That season, Kerber won four WTA titles before going up another notch in 2016 – her career-best season.
