Fantasy Tennis League: Captain’s Corner Week 36

Every week the Fantasy Tennis Insider recommends his top five captain options for your team. Captains are a big aspect of Fantasy Tennis League because they account for an additional 50% of their score to your team – so who will you pick?

Another two massive tournaments mean that your Game Week 36 choice for captain is a pivotal one.

On the women’s side we have plenty of unreliable players who all have the propensity for massive scores and massive duds on any given week. With a much more pedigreed ATP field, the choices are a little more clear-cut.

So who should you pick for captain? Let’s take a look…

Roger Federer

There is really no reason to take Roger out of your top spot. Whenever he plays, he dominates. The only small concern is that he may be tired from Basel, but Federer knows his body so he will withdraw from the tournament all together if he’s not feeling it.

Rafael Nadal

See Federer, Roger. If the Spanish Bull’s knee is fine then you have to strongly consider him captain; the only reason I’d have him below Roger is because of his 0-4 record against the Swiss in 2017. He’s also never won the Paris Masters – but I don’t read much into that (if anything, it provides extra motivation).

Juan Martin del Potro

From the likely draw in Paris, Delpo is the only man capable of reliably outplaying Roger or Rafa. Having won six consecutive matches, the Argentinian’s form is excellent and, considering he’s within reach of the ATP Finals in London, he’ll be hungry for more.

Jo-Wilfred Tsonga

Tsonga is also coming off a six match win streak, including a title in Antwerp and a win over the red-hot Damir Džumhur. Despite many saying Tsonga is cooked, the Frenchman has actually won four titles in 2017. He has also won the Paris Masters in 2008 and was a runner-up in 2011.

Barbora Strycova

I think the WTA Elite Trophy field is a crap shoot, but if I had to pick a winner it would be Strycova because of her solid recent form. The Czech is averaging 50.6 Fantasy Tennis points in her last three Game Weeks and most recently won a title in Linz. In a field with so many hot and cold players I like the experience of Strycova.
