This week’s First Serve podcast included a discussion about the star-studded lineup scheduled for the upcoming Hopman Cup. Roger Federer, Angelique Kerber, Alexander Zverev and David Goffin were all named to play in the tournament that kicks off on December 30, 2017.
The panel of Brett Phillips, Paul Aitken, Sean Munaweera and Val Febbo spoke with Hopman Cup tournament director Paul Kilderry about the excitement around the event in the lead up to the Australian Open.
“We’re pretty thrilled with the field we’ve got coming. Obviously it was a major coup to get Roger last year, it took a number of years to convince him to come and when he did he really wanted to come back.”
He was amazing last year. He took the tournament to another level and ticked off every indicator that makes a successful tournament. He put it through the roof.”
Brisbane International Tournament Director Geoff Quinlan also joined the show to preview a similarly exciting draw headlined by Grigor Dimitrov and Karolina Pliskova.
“Were’ thrilled. It’s always great to have the defending champions back. Grigor loves it in Brisbane.”
