Every week the Fantasy Tennis Insider recommends his top five captain options for your team. Captains are a big aspect of Fantasy Tennis League because they account for an additional 50% of their score to your team – so who will you pick?

Due to the large amount of points up for grabs in Shanghai, this week’s best captain options will be mostly men. Here are the best five to choose from:

Caroline Garcia

The Frenchwoman is 15-3 since her return to the hard courts highlighted by a big title in Wuhan. She plays in a new-ish tournament with weak competition–Peng Shuai won it last year; Kvitova and Sharapova are her biggest hurdles this year–so providing she’s not too gassed from Beijing, Garcia is a captain option that could be a handy point of difference in Game Week 33.

Alexander Zverev

The man himself put it best: ““You know, in 2015, I finished inside the top 100 for the first time. Last year I was almost top 20. Well, I was top 20 during the year, but I didn’t finish top 20. I was No.24 in the world. Now I’m No.4. It’s a very nice progress that I’m doing.” Sascha’s trajectory suggests a semifinal (or final?) is in the works and I can’t see any reason to disagree.

Roger Federer

The great man is a remarkable 39-4 in 2017 with two Grand Slams and two Masters 1000s. He looked poor at the US Open but that was undoubtedly due to a lingering back issue; he’s had plenty of time to rest since then, and if he’s going to complete the 2017 fairytale by becoming world No.1 he needs to win in Shanghai. Has won this tournament twice before and as the likely No.2 seed will see an easy road to the final.

Caroline Wozniacki

The Dane is a Fantasy Tennis behemoth. She sits behind only Rafael Nadal as the top scorer among men and women and has started the Asian swing well with a title in Tokyo; she has six career titles in Asian tournaments. At this time of the year, when the bodies get sore and the mind’s exhausted, you have to turn to players who have made their name from consistency — and that is Wozniacki to a tee.

Rafael Nadal

The world No.1 is red hot. He is 57-9 on the year and 47-5 since losing to Federer in Miami. He may be tired from playing in Beijing but an exhausted Nadal is still better than 90% of the competition.
