Karolina Pliskova advanced to the quarterfinals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo with a dominant display on Wednesday.
The second seed belted qualifier Magda Linette off the court in exactly one hour, winning 6-2 6-1 to set up a meeting in the last eight with either Angelique Kerber or Daria Kasatkina.
Pliskova, playing without a coach after she split with fellow Czech David Kotyza, felt comfortable despite flying solo in the Japanese capital.

“I felt great today on the court. I think my serve was working well, and my shots I felt I had pretty good depth,” she said.
“We played in New York against each other so I knew a little bit what to expect from Magda. I think she also didn’t play the best today, so I was feeling well. My game was working today.”

Pliskova’s serve was typically decisive; she finished with eight aces and never allowed Linette a break point.
The final point was emblematic of the match, with Pliskova firing a heavy serve down the T to Linette’s backhand, which the Pole sent wide.
Pliskova’s 23 winners eclipsed Linette’s meagre tally of eight.
Also advancing to the quarterfinals in Tokyo on Wednesday was Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who beat China’s Wang Qiang 6-4 4-6 6-2.
No.1 seed Garbine Muguruza will also be in action on Wednesday, followed by the Kerber v Kasatkina clash.
