Roger Federer is looking forward to bonding with his teammates, as he prepares for the inaugural Laver Cup in Prague. The world No.2, who landed in the Czech Republic yesterday, told reporters that he was looking forward to developing the team spirit.
“We’ll be spending time as a team, really building the team spirit,” Federer said as he stepped off the plane.
Federer will join Rafael Nadal in leading the European team into battle. They will be partnering Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev and Tomas Berdych in the inaugural event.

The Swiss star, one of the driving forces behind the competition, rejected comparisons between the Laver Cup and the Davis Cup. “The Laver Cup is three days a year and that’s it,” Federer said. “It’s quite different in my opinion. It’s a new event, hopefully this will be the start of a great history.
“It’s not an exhibition, I know some people mention that word, I don’t even like it.

“We are playing in the honour and legacy of Rod Laver. Bjorn Borg definitely wants to win and I know John McEnroe does not want to lose.”
The Laver Cup starts on Friday. Played over three days, the competition pits the best of Europe against the best of the rest of the world. Jack Sock, Nick Kyrgios, John Isner, Sam Querrey, Juan Martin del Potro and Denis Shapovalov will all be turning out for the world team.
