The life of a professional tennis player can, at times, be a charmed one. There’s glitz, there’s glamour, there’s even a smattering of private jets. But the latter, in particular, are not everyone’s cup of tea.

“We went there five minutes before, and when I saw the plane I was scared,” Halep told the Cincinnati press. “We had to stop in Buffalo because of the customs and I said it’s enough. I’m not going to go again in the plane. So I got in the car and we drove for six hours.”

“My physio and my trainer went by private plane, but poor Darren went with me. I drove two hours, he drove four hours.”

The journey doesn’t seem to have caused Halep too many problems. The Romanian eased through her opening match against Taylor Townsend in little over an hour.
