The American wildcard, currently ranked 175 in the world, was a 6-4 7-6(4) winner over Young in one hour 35 minutes.

From flying passing shots to dinky little volleys at full stretch, Mischa Zverev showed off his net wizardry during his victory over Fernando Verdasco. In one of the day’s few high profile matches, the German ousted the Spaniard 6-4 6-4 in little over an hour.
Meanwhile over on the WTA, CoCo Vandeweghe showed off her deft touch during a titanic first round match against Madison Keys. Vandeweghe eventually lost the tussle 6-4 3-6 6-3.
