Another week, another injury withdrawal for Maria Sharapova.
This time the Russian will skip with Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, citing the left arm injury that forced her out of Stanford following her first-round win and saw her skip this week’s tournament in Toronto.
Sharapova withdrew from Rome due to a thigh injury and missed the entire grasscourt swing.

Sharapova – a champion in Cincinnati in 2011 – had been drawn to face Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko in what was the pick of the tournament’s first-round matches.
She joins Victoria Azarenka on the sidelines, who withdrew from Cincinnati citing family matters.
Qualifying matches for the combined ATP/WTA tournament have already begun.
