Philipp Kohlschreiber stormed to the title in Austria, while Kevin Anderson and CoCo Vandeweghe booked their spot in Sunday’s finals.

He’s been riding his bike to work all week, and the relaxed approach clearly suited Philipp Kohlschreiber who stormed to the Kitzbuhel title. Elsewhere, Kevin Anderson is back in a final as is American CoCo Vandeweghe.

ATP Kitzbuhel: Kohlschreiber with eighth ATP title

Philipp Kohlschreiber has won his eighth ATP title with victory over Joao Sousa in the final of the Austrian Open. In the final clay court match of the ATP season, Kohlschreiber needed just one hour 22 minutes to record the 6-3 6-4 win.

Kohlschreiber, who lives in Kitzbuhel and rode his bike to the tournament each day, last won a title in 2015. “It was an amazing week for me,” Kohlschreiber gushed. “I never expected to win this title when the tournament started. I really enjoy playing here, it is such a nice event.”

ATP Los Cabos: Querrey ends Kokkinakis run

Wimbledon semifinalist Sam Querrey enjoyed the perfect return to action with victory at Los Cabos. The American, playing in his first tournament since his SW19 exploits, was a 6-3 3-6 6-2 winner over Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis.

For Kokkinakis, playing in his first ATP final, the match marked a welcome return to form after 18 months on the sidelines. His ranking is projected to rocket from No.454 to No.225 as a result of his performances this week.

ATP Washington: Anderson into final

Kevin Anderson is through to the final of the Citi Open – his first title match in over two years. The big South African, who has been beset by injuries since October 2015, overpowered local favourite Jack Sock 6-3 6-4 to book his spot in Sunday’s final.

“It feels great. It’s great to get another match win today. It was definitely a tough match. I felt I did quite a few things well today, couple things I thought I could have done a little bit better. But most importantly I was able to get the win and give myself a shot at the title tomorrow,” Anderson told the ATP.

In the day’s second semifinal, Alexander Zverev eased past Kei Nishikori. The German needed just over an hour to down the No.2 seed 6-3 6-4.

“I played a great match,” Zverev said following the win. “I played well from the baseline. I returned pretty well… I was holding serve quite comfortably, so I’m happy with how I played.”

WTA Washington: Makarova on the march

Ekaterina Makarova has booked her spot in the Citi Open final with a hard-fought win over France’s Oceane Dodin. The Russian seventh seed, who upset an injured Simona Halep in the quarterfinals, needed little under two hours to beat Dodin 3-6 6-3 6-4.

In the day’s second semifinal, Julia Goerges got the better of fellow German Andrea Petkovic in a tight three setter. Goerges needed exactly two hours 30 minutes to secure the 5-7 6-4 7-5 win, and book a spot in Sunday’s final.

WTA Stanford: Vendeweghe downs Bellis

CoCo Vandeweghe overwhelmed teenage opponent Cici Bellis in the semifinals of Stanford. In the first meeting between the fellow Americans, Vandeweghe needed little more than an hour to dispatch the world No.44 6-3 6-1.

“I think [I’m] a little bit of a different tennis player,” Vandeweghe said when reflecting on her last Stanford final five years ago. “You grow and evolve as a tennis player and as a person, and I think especially in the last two years, it’s been kind of clicking in that regard.”

In the day’s second semifinal, Madison Keys shocked top seed and Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza. Muguruza, who was on a nine match win streak, was the clear favourite going into the match, but Keys ended her run in under an hour, winning 6-3 6-2.
