Garbine Muguruza has learned how to deal with the challenges that being a major champion brings.

Garbine Muguruza believes that she is ready to deal with the success of winning Wimbledon, having learned a tough lesson after taking her maiden major at Roland Garros.

Muguruza, who overwhelmed Venus Williams in the 7-5 6-0 win, will aim to adopt more relaxed perspective now that she is a two-time Grand Slam champion.

“I will try to learn from what I felt after winning at Roland Garros, taking it all more calmly and enjoying it,” Muguruza said to Spanish newspaper, Marca.

“Digesting success is difficult. In Paris I won and the next day I was already playing again. I want to enjoy the moment a little more.

Following her victory at Roland Garros in 2016, Muguruza suffered a wretched run of form that saw her eliminated from all but one of the tournaments she played before the semifinals. However, having shaken off the shackles of that maiden triumph, Muguruza believes that she is prepared for the attention – and the challenges – that a Wimbledon title will bring.

“I always try to keep my feet on the ground and I repeat, this victory will not change my life. Everyone tells me that I will change and I say I will not.

“I will have more pressure, more responsibility, but I will carry on the same.”

As well as claiming her first Wimbledon title in Saturday’s final, Muguruza also made a little bit of tennis history: becoming the first woman to beat both Venus and Serena Williams in a Grand Slam final.

“It feels like a dream come true,” added Muguruza. “When you beat one of the Williams in the final, you feel like you’ve been the best player at the tournament.”
