An expert scoop on how to prepare for Game Week 21 in Fantasy Tennis League…

As the world’s best players fine-tune their grass court games ahead of Wimbledon next week, it is also time to get your #FantasyTennis team in order.

Grand Slam tournaments are the biggest, and most exciting, events on the tennis calendar – and a great opportunity to earn a lot of #FantasyTennis points too. Game Week 21 is certainly a huge one, so who should you have in your team?

Is the smartest move to trade in players who have impressed in the grass court swing or is it the top-ranked stars who are going to earn you the most points? These are the questions that #FantasyTennis players need to be considering.

It is also worth thinking about popularity. Is it a wise strategic move to choose the same players a lot of teams also have?

These are currently the most selected players:

Men Women
Grigor Dimitrov Karolina Pliskova
Roger Federer Angelique Kerber
Alexander Zverev Garbine Muguruza
Novak Djokovic Eugenie Bouchard
Dominic Thiem Johanna Konta

All have the potential to make deep runs at the All England Club – but before trading them into your team, consider that due to their popularity they could also earn big points for many other #FantasyTennis players too. So perhaps you need an under-the-radar option, a wildcard so to say.

To help you get strategic, we’ve delved deep into selections and discovered the following players who do not feature in many teams, yet could provide huge (and more cost-efficient) value…

Feliciano Lopez ($9.3m): The recently-crowned Queen’s champion is a three-time quarterfinalist at Wimbledon and lists grass is his favourite surface. Lopez currently features in under four per cent of all #FantasyTennis teams.

Ashleigh Barty ($7.8m): A Wimbledon girls’ singles champion at 15, the now 21-year-old last week defeated 2015 runner-up Garbine Muguruza en route to the Birmingham final. The Australian is a rising star of the women’s game in career-best form.

Dustin Brown ($2.34m): The German is as exciting as he is unpredictable, but thrives on grass. He boasts victories against former champions Rafael Nadal and Lleyton Hewitt at the All England Club, where he has twice reached the third round.

Kristyna Pliskova ($5.44m): The big-serving Czech player is due for a Grand Slam breakthrough and Wimbledon, where she won the girls’ singles title in 2010, seems the most likely place for it to happen.

Gilles Muller ($7.63m): Currently at a career-high rank of No.26, the big-serving Luxembourg talent is a legitimate Wimbledon dark horse. Has recently won s-Hertogenbosch and reached the Queen’s semifinals in a career-best grass court season.

Petra Kvitova ($9.34m): A two-time Wimbledon champion, Kvitova continued her fairytale return from a career-threatening hand injury to win Birmingham last week. She claims she isn’t a title favourite, but currently featuring in under two per cent of all teams, those who select her could be greatly rewarded.

Tsvetana Pironkova ($3.38m): The 29-year-old Bulgarian is known for unexpected runs – famously reaching the Wimbledon semifinals in 2010 and the quarterfinals the next year. She has twice beaten five-time champion Venus Williams at the All England Club too.

Marcus Willis ($2.92m): The unheralded Brit was the surprise packet of Wimbledon last year, coming from pre-qualifying to reach the second round. Should he qualify again, who knows what he can achieve?
