Dominic Thiem, the top seed at the new ATP event in Antalya, Turkey, was shocked by little known world No.222 Ramkumar Ramanathan in his opening match.

Dominic Thiem’s final week of preparations for Wimbledon hit a snag when he was stunned in his first match by a qualifier ranked outside the world’s top 200.

India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan, a 22-year-old ranked No.222, beat the top seed and world No.8 6-3 6-2 in less than an hour.

Incredibly, it was just the second ATP-level event of the season for Ramanathan, who’d lost in the first round in Chennai, India back in January.

“I worked really hard for this,” Ramanathan said. “I like the grass. Courts are fast. I took my chances and it worked out.”

Ramanathan, on a four-match winning streak after coming through two rounds of qualifying, will meet Marcos Baghdatis in the quarterfinals.
