Angelique Kerber’s withdrawal from the WTA event in Birmingham has cast doubt upon her health ahead of Wimbledon – but the world No.1 says she hopes to be fit at the All England Club.

A hamstring injury has seen Angelique Kerber pull out of the WTA tournament in Birmingham as well as casting doubt over her campaign at the All England Club.

The world No.1 said she was hoping to be fully fit ahead of Wimbledon, which commences on 3 July.

“Of course I’m really sad to pull out from Birmingham, because I love this tournament and I have so many great memories, but I feel my left hamstring,” she told wtatennis.com.

“I don’t want to risk anything before the big event [Wimbledon] in two weeks.”

Kerber reached the final at Wimbledon last year, losing a high-quality final to Serena Williams. She won the Birmingham title in 2015.
