Stan Wawrinka is happy to be flying under the radar at Roland Garros. The 2015 champion, who is yet to drop a set at the tournament, yesterday came through a potentially tricky match against Alexandr Dolgopolov unscathed.
When later questioned about the lack of attention directed towards him at the majors, Wawrinka dismissed it as not being a problem.
“I’m not worried about it,” Wawrinka said. “I’m used to that situation.

“I don’t want people to talk about me. What matters to me is to make a deep run in this tournament. If I can reach the final, people will talk about me. So I just want to move forward to notch up victories. Whether I’m part of the favourites it doesn’t matter at all.”
Wawrinka has enjoyed a typically up and down season in 2017. He has picked up a title in Geneva, and was beaten by Roger Federer in both the Indian Wells final and Australian Open semifinal. However, he has also crashed out early in a number of major tournaments, most notably during the clay swing of Monte Carlo (2R), Madrid (2R) and Rome (3R).

However the Swiss star, who has a reputation for peaking during the Slams, insists he has what it takes to win a second Roland Garros crown.
“I’m No. 3 in the world. I won three Grand Slams last three years. I know what my level is, I know what I can do” the Swiss star said. “I’m focusing on what I have to do to stay as long as possible here, and the rest I really don’t mind.”
Wawrinka will play Italian Fabio Fognini in the French Open third round.
