Victoria Azarenka has announced that she plans to play at Wimbledon. The former world No.1, who has been out of the game for nearly a year after giving birth to her first son in December, made the announcement on social media this morning.
‘My training has been progressing well and I feel ready to start competing… plus Leo kinda said he wants to see London and Wimbledon 🙂
‘I will be finalizing my schedule in the coming days – I plan to play one of the grass court events prior to Wimbledon!’

It is a welcome announcement from the 27 year-old, who had originally been targeting a return in the US hard court swing. The two-time Wimbledon semifinalist made a brief return from injury at the start of 2016, before surprising the tennis would by announcing that she was pregnant.
If Azarenka does compete, it could be the first time that we see Azarenka, Sharapova and Kvitova playing at the same tournament in over 18 months.
