Unseeded Fabio Fognini of Italy awaits Nishikori in the quarterfinals after he beat America’s Donald Young 6-0 6-4.
Young’s loss meant only one American man would reach the round of eight. Top-ranked American, and No.13-seed, Jack Sock beat countryman Jared Donaldson 6-2 6-1 in their fourth round showdown.
Czech Tomas Berdych is also into the final eight, defeating Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-3 7-5.
