Sydney crowd wowed by FAST4 showdown

Is this the future of tennis?

For a third straight year, a sold-out crowd turned out to watch FAST4 Tennis as the Australian team beat the World team 2-0 at the ICC Sydney Theatre.

700 absorbed fans watched home favourites Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic from close range, taking on Top-10 talent in the shape of Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem.

Close to the action, mic’d up players and captains, rapid fire sets. The crowd were encouraged to get involved and it was a boisterous atmosphere down at Darling Harbour.

After a dramatic curtain reveal, Kyrgios and Nadal wasted no time in getting into the match, both clearly committed to getting their team the early lead. With team captain Lleyton Hewitt in his corner, Kyrgios eventually prevailed, winning 4-3 2-4 4-3 4-3.

The insight was fascinating for viewers on TV too, hearing what direction Hewitt offered his Aussie prodigies.

Like the first match, both Tomic and Austrian Thiem came out firing and ready to win. With the match split at two sets all, the FAST4 Tennis sudden death tiebreak decided the match with Tomic taking it, and the match, 3-4 4-2 4-3 3-4 5-3.

Fast and engaging, it appears it was a tennis feast for all in Sydney.
