Novak Djokovic has employed a spiritual guru in a bid to help him maintain a level of calm at the BNP Paribas Masters.

Novak Djokovic has reportedly turned to love and hugs in a bid to defend his world No.1 ranking at the Paris Masters. The Serb, who is without regular coaches Boris Becker and Marian Vaida in Bercy, will have spiritual teacher Pepe Imaz in his player box.

Imaz, himself a former professional tennis player, stresses the importance of ‘amor y paz’ (love and peace) on the path to success. He also advocates the use of long hugs and is a specialist in meditation.

In a video (above) posted on the guru’s website, Djokovic says: “We are all looking for love, happiness and harmony. We need to be able to look inwards and to establish this connection with a divine light.”

Djokovic has previously admitted that he has struggled with the weight of expectation in a season where he was expected to challenge for an unprecedented Golden Slam. After winning the first two Majors of the year (Australian Open and French Open), Djokovic went out in the first round of the Olympics, third round of Wimbledon and the final of the US Open.
