What has been happening on social media in the tennis world?

ICYMI (social speak for ‘in case you missed it’) there was some big upsets on day three of the US Open. Reigning French Open champion Garbine Muguruza and Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic were both eliminated – and it sent social media into overdrive.

American Christina McHale lost today, but was happy to see Ryan Harrison stun Raonic:

John Isner made it a good day for American tennis, also advancing:

Caroline Wozniacki caused an upset of her own, beating No.9 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight sets:

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was tested by Australian wildcard James Duckworth – but had too many answers in the end:

It’s true Elina Svitolina won too:

So did Carina Witthoeft, who is excited to say hello to third round action:

#teambucie (Lucie Safarova and Bethanie Mattek-Sands) started their doubles campaign with victory and of course,  a selfie:

Petra Kvitova is into round three:

And her round two victim Cagla Buyukakcay only has nice things to say:

The day ended with a milestone moment – the roof on Arthur Ashe Stadium was used for the first time:

It had everyone excited, including Elena Vesnina and Chris Evert:

Fernando Verdasco decided exploring New York was the best way to deal with a loss:

It looks like Victoria Azarenka is missing NYC – she’s keeping an eye on the action though and providing running commentary on her Twitter account:

Life in retirement is still proving challenging for Andy Roddick. While he no longer has to worry about his opponents (or looking fashionable)… wasps are a big threat:
