Tennis players that receive provisional suspensions under the International Tennis Federation’s Tennis Anti-Doping Programme will be publicly announced from September.
The ITF announced today it had amended its rules, which will apply to both mandatory and voluntarily accepted provisional suspensions. Under previous rules, the ITF would not publicly announce such suspensions.

The ITF’s reasoning for the change was: “The reputation of the programme and, consequently, the image of tennis, have been damaged by accusations that players have been allowed to serve bans without those bans being made public (so-called ‘silent bans’). This rule change will prevent any further similar accusations and so protect our sport”.
