A different kind of crowd

Tennis fans are known around the world as being some of the most respectful, restrained and courteous spectators in sport.

This certainly hasn’t been the case in Rio.

Etiquette has long dictated that it’s a no-no to cheer a player’s first serve faults, or make noise between first and second serves.

But the Brazilian fans – passionately supporting on their hero Thomaz Bellucci in the second round of the men’s singles – were having none of that.

They gave it to Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas, as the vision below shows …

It may not have been conventional, or correct – but it sure made for a crackling atmosphere on Centre Court.

Bellucci rode the home support to record a three-set win over the 11th seeded Cuevas, sealing a place in the last 16.
