Giraldo defaulted to hand Chile Davis Cup win

Did he jump or was he pushed? According the Davis Cup website, it was a case of the latter for Colombian Santiago Giraldo against Gonzalo Lama in the Davis Cup Group I playoffs in Chile.

Trailing the Chileans 2-1 going into the final day, Giraldo was due to play the world No.167 in a crucial singles rubber. But the Colombian No.1 wasn’t a happy chap.

Having complained on multiple occasions about the state of the court, Giraldo took the matter further, further… and then, apparently, a little bit too far. It’s impossible to tell what was said from the footage, but the Colombian was defaulted (although some reports say he chose to walk off), and Chile claimed the tie 3-1.

Speaking after the match, Giraldo claimed it was the greatest ‘outrage’ of his playing career.
