Do tennis balls have a distinctive smell? According to Wimbledon quarterfinalist Dominika Cibulkova they do.
The diminutive Slovak made headlines with her impressive form at the All England Club this fortnight, overpowering two former finalists in Eugenie Bouchard and Agnieszka Radwanska during her run to the final eight.
Cibulkova’s pre-serve routine includes smelling the tennis balls and in the world No.18’s 10th year on tour, turns out she has developed quite a strong sense.
In an interview with BBC, they decided to test Cibulkova’s theory that she can smell the difference between tennis balls used at each Grand Slam.
