Rainy conditions have caused the suspension of the Roger Federer-Taylor Fritz second-round match at the ATP Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart.

Federer lead Fritz 4-3 before the heavens opened, causing the remainder of the day’s play in Germany to be washed out.

The battle between the decorated Swiss veteran and the American rising star will resume on Wednesday.

Federer is returning to action after skipping the French Open due to a back injury.

His last competitive outing was a straight-sets loss to Dominic Thiem four weeks ago in Rome.
