Novak Djokovic is targeting the calendar year Grand Slam after winning all four in one go.

With a `Novak slam’ under his belt, Novak Djokovic believes he can join Rod Laver as only the second man to win a calendar year grand slam in the Open era.

Australian legend Laver was quick to offer his congratulations on Monday after Djokovic defeated Andy Murray in the French Open final to become just the third man after American Don Budge and Laver to hold all four major titles at one time.

The elated world No.1 made it clear he believed he could win all four in the same calendar year – a feat also only achieved by Laver (1962 and 1969) and Budge (1938).

“Well, I don’t want to sound arrogant, but I really think everything is achievable in life,” said Djokovic.

“I’m trying to grasp and I’m trying to cherish, obviously, these moments right now. Whether or not I can reach a calendar slam, that’s still a possibility.”

Laver wished Djokovic well in his quest.

“Congratulations Novak on a great effort in winning all four major titles and I just wish you all the best for the future and for your matches at Wimbledon and at the US Open,” said Laver in a video message.

Djokovic recovered from a nervous start against Murray to win 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-4 and clinch his 12th grand slam crown after three previous failures in a Roland Garros final.

“It’s a very special moment, possibly the biggest moment in my career,” said the 29-year-old, who now has a 5-2 win-loss record against Murray in grand slam finals.

Murray said: “This is something that is so rare in tennis. It has not happened for an extremely long time and it is going to take a long time for it to happen again.

“So everyone here who came to watch is obviously extremely lucky to see it. Me personally being on the opposite side it sucks to lose the match.”
