Frenchman Lucas Pouille has pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the men’s draw at the Miami Open to oust No.8 seed David Ferrer.

Pouille, aged 22, saved a match point to beat the Spanish veteran 6-7(1) 7-6(4) 7-5 in two hours and 45 minutes on Sunday.

Pouille, frequently touted as a future star of the game yet who has won only four matches at Grand Slam or ATP Masters level, advanced to the fourth round at a Masters tournament for the first time in his career.

The world No.88 – who rose to a peak of 64th in August last year – next faces compatriot Gilles Simon.
