Belgian David Goffin has caused another shock in the men’s draw at Indian Wells, ousting third seed Stan Wawrinka in three thrilling sets.

A few days after No.2 seed Andy Murray was eliminated, Goffin shocked the Swiss 6-3 5-7 7-6(5) in just under two-and-a-half hours.

The diminutive 25-year-old had never before taken a set off Wawrinka in three career meetings.

The victory ended Goffin’s 14-match skid against top 10-ranked opponents; beating Wawrinka improved his career record to 2-26 against top-10 players.

He beat then-No.9 Milos Raonic in the quarterfinals at Basel in 2014.

Goffin has gone to three sets in each of his matches at Indian Wells so far; he saved two match points to beat wildcard Frances Tiafoe in the second round and then rallied from a set down to outlast Guido Pella in the last 32.
