Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams and Team GB have been nominated for Laureus Sports Awards

Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams the Great Britain Davis Cup team have all been nominated for Laureus World Sports Awards. The awards are widely regarded as the most prestigious ceremony of its kind in sport.

Djokovic faces stiff competition as he goes up against Usain Bolt (athletics), Stephen Curry (basketball), Lewis Hamilton (motor racing), Lionel Messi (football) and Jordan Spieth (golf) for the 2016 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award. The World No.1 enjoyed a career-best season in 2015, winning 11 ATP tournaments and three Grand Slams.

Likewise, Serena Williams faces stiff competition in the World Sportswoman of the Year Award. Following a stellar 2015, the World No.1 will square off against Genzebe Dibaba (runner), Anna Fenninger (skiier), Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (runner), Katie Ledecky (swimming), Carli Lloyd (footballer).

Finally, Great Britain’s triumphant Davis Cup team will have to beat competition from the All Blacks (rugby), Barcelona (football), Golden State Warriors (basketball), Mercedes (F1) and the US Women’s Football Team if they are to take home the World Team of the Year.

The Laureus Sports Awards will take place on April 18 in Berlin.
