World No.1 doubles duo Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza have had their 41-match winning streak sensationally snapped by Russians Elena Vesnina and Daria Kasatkina at the Qatar Total Open.
Hingis and Mirza appeared to be cruising toward a semifinal berth when they won the first set, but were eventually stopped 2-6 6-4 [10-5].
Vesnina and Kasatkina will go on to face No.4 seeds Chan Hao-Ching and Chan Yung-Jan.
The Taiwanese sisters were the last team to beat Hingis and Mirza; that victory came six months ago in the semifinals of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
Since that loss in August, Hingis and Mirza had gone on to win their next nine tournaments together, including the US and Australian Opens and the WTA Finals.
